Back Techniques

Back Attacks
Armbar on Turtled Opponent
Position: A has hooks on B's back with B in the Turtle Guard position.

Step 1: A grabs B's left sleeve with their right hand and grabs either B's pants/belt with their left hand.

Step 2: A releases their right hook and brings their leg around so that they are facing B with the left hook still in

Step 3: Without letting go of the grips, A sits down and uses their left hook to roll B over their head

Step 4: A lands in an armbar position and finishes the move

Creating Space:

When B is in turtle guard position with his elbows and his knees touching to prevent grips and A is perpendicular to B on B's right side, A grabs the belt/pants with their left hand and the back of the lapel at the neck with their other hand. A uses the grips to pull/push B towards their head. A then brings their right knee against the rib of B and forces their knee against B's elbow to create space to attack.

Attack 1: When Bottom (B) places the same side leg that you're on to sit through and re constitute guard. (Cross face -> shoulder bump)
This is more of a sweep than an attack but to hell with all that. B is turtled up with their elbows touching the mat. In this situation it's too risky to go for hooks so we will sweep. Assuming I'm on B's right side at a perpendicular angle, I use my right arm to come underneath B's chin and monkey grips B's left arm. My right arm comes underneath B's arms across the chest and overlaps my monkey grip. I then place my left shoulder against the side of B's body and use it to push B over so I land in side control.

Attack 2: When B bases out to prevent the sweep with their opposite side leg. (Cross face -> half nelson head push)
This starts exactly the same as the attack above but changes when B tries to fight the sweep by basing out their left leg. Once their leg is based out I let go of the monkey grip with my left arm. The right arm keeps the monkey grip. My left hand then goes to the back of B's head and with a light push they should be forced to roll over. Usually you will land in north to south but just walk to whatever side is closest to you and take top side control position.
Back Sweeps
Turtled Opponent to Side Control
Position: A has top control on B's right side while B is in Turtle Guard.

Step 1: A places their open hand on the inside of B's left knee

Step 2: A's right hand can go to the lapel around B's neck or rest on B's shoulder

Step 3: A circles towards B's head while putting pressure on B's knee with their hand

Step 4: A lands in top side control position

Sweep 1:

The position starts as described above except that B's legs are on either side of A's leg, closest to the hip. Partner A places his foot on top of B's inside leg. **The leg that in between A's** From there A takes his arm (same arm that B has a wrist grip on) and throws it backwards. The momentum of the A's arm going backwards and A's foot blocking B's leg forces them backwards onto their back. The position that A should land in is reverse kesa-gatame with a leg in half guard. From there A can grab the side of B's belt to nullify the arm and use their extra hand/foot to free the leg from half guard and take side control.

Sweep 2:
This sweep starts from the basic position described above. **B's legs are to the side of A's hips** Partner A grabs the outside of B's knee with the arm that is being controlled by the wrist grip. (Inside hand grabs outside leg). Partner A then posts with their outside hand and their outside leg. Partner A then walks their hips around the outside to get to the other side of B. The result is B losing their base and partner A landing in side control.
