Guard: Lapel Grip to the Back With Sweep Option

I have B in my guard. My left arm is underhooked and grabbing the far lapel across the back.

Step 1: I place my left foot on B's hip and shrimp my hip as if opening up for a pendulum sweep
Step 2: I shoot my right hand underneath my body towards B's far(right knee) so that the back of my hand is resting against the outside of their knee
Step 3: My legs should be positioned as if I am going for a pendulum sweep
Step 4: I go inverted so that my head comes out past B's right knee.
Step 5: Using the momentum from my left leg, and using my hand against the knee, I come up onto B's back
Step 6: I use my body weight to pull B onto their side so I have a S mount

If the initial back take fails, I can go for a pendulum sweep/armbar

When going to the back it's important to use my right leg to block B's left leg. The top of my foot comes across their thigh so that when I go to the back it is easier for me to sweep because I am blocking their base. The action to sweep them over is simply a hip switch so my right hip comes forward as my left goes back. It is also important to have a very deep grip on the lapel.

Half Guard Pass: Knee In Pass

I have half guard control from the top with my right leg trapped.

Step 1: I open up the lapel with my right hand and pass it to my left for head control pressure

Step 2: I tripod my right leg and move my foot towards B's butt so that they cannot hook my leg with their feet

Step 3: My right hand grips B's far knee

Step 4: I bring my left leg in across B's stomach so that my shin comes across the top of B's thighs

Step 5: While pushing with my shin and pulling with my knee grip I create space and pull out my leg

Step 6: While keeping the grips, my right foot hits the mat to prevent B from bridging me over.

Step 7: I switch my hips and take side control

Guard: Straight Armbar

This move starts with A having half guard control with an underhook and head control.
Assume A has top half guard on B's left leg.
From the bottom starting position, B grabs A's belt with the overhooking arm and uses their elbow+belt grip to keep A's underhook pinned. B can then use their free left arm to create space at the hip to shrimp out. Once space is created and B is on their left hip, B takes their right outside leg and places it inside A's thigh for a butterfly hook. Assuming A has left their arm for head control, B takes their free left hand (hand that is not gripping the belt) and wraps it around the outside of A's arm and grabs their own lapel. With the butterfly hook, B rolls from their left hip to the flat of their back while elevating with the butterfly hook. Elevating A with the butterfly hook makes it easier to regain guard and sets up the next part of the move. Once guard is regained, B releases the belt grip and uses their forearm to push A's face away while bring the same side leg as the gripped arm and brings it up A's back while B's bottom leg comes up to A's chest. From there, B straightens out the arm and straightens their back to get the straight armlock.

Guard: Kimura

Kimura from guard is setup exactly the same as the Sit Up Sweep. B swims his arms around the outside to force T's arms to the mat. The difference now is that B grabs T's same side wrist. The grip B will use is called the "monkey grip" which means that the thumb stays connected to the fingers. This grip allows for more strength to be used. B then reaches around that same arm above the elbow and secures a grip onto the wrist that is holding T's wrist. If B is on the left side of their hip attempting to kimura T's right arm, they will then roll over to their right hip in a modified shoulder roll". To reiterate the position, B now has a kimura grip on T's right arm and B is now on his right hip facing towards T. B has a leg across T's upper back and his other leg is against T's belly (Top's posture should be broken and he should be relatively flattened out). The next part is very important and can make or break the move. B's bottom leg straightens out and comes across T's shoulders perpendicularly at the armpit. The leg pushes T's body away preventing them from gripping the inside of their thigh to stop the sweep. Once the upper body has been pushed away, B bends his leg at a 45 degree angle and lays it down flat along the upper back of T. This prevents T from regaining posture and possibly powering out of the sub. B then uses his bottom leg that is across T's belly to pinch and add chest pressure. The additional pressure from the legs helps to end the move faster and and a lot more torque.

Kimura note: When possible, B can use that bottom leg and grape vine around T's leg to help flatten them out. I had trouble doing this because I'm a smaller guy, but against people my size I'm sure it will come in handy.

Guard: One Arm Tie Up -> X Choke -> Sweep

Step 1: Grip T's right sleeve with right hand and while pulling with my arm, break his posture with my legs

Step 2: Pull T's sleeve over my head and swim my left arm around from the outside->in, grabbing T's cross lapel, tying up the arm
Step 3: Using my right hand, grab the gi towards the back of the neck for the cross choke
**T defends the cross choke by pushing against my right arm**
Step 4: Keeping my elbow pinched down on T's trapped arm, I release my lapel grip and grab T's sleeve of the arm that is defending the cross choke
Step 5: Pull the sleeve grip while sitting up and sweep T over to the side of the trapped arm **Hip bump motion**

Guard: Sit-Up Sweep/Hip Bump

The "Sit Up Sweep" is a very commonly used sweep when T is going to posture back up and their momentum is carrying them backwards. The setup we learned is based on when T has both their hands on the lapel, either to maintain posture or go for a standing guard pass. B swims both arms around from the outside to come up in between T's arms and breaks the grips. The swimming motion should ideally force T's hands to the mat on either side of B's hips. B then comes up on their elbow and reaches over T's arm right above the elbow. Having a tight arm grip is crucial to making the sweep work because it takes away T's ability to base out and it also helps to add a pulling force. At this point it's important to note that B's guard is open and their feet are planted close to T's heels to keep the hips close. T then posts up on their hand and in one motion hip bumps while pulling the arm over.

Practicing Moves

When practicing moves, it is important to keep your grips the whole time. Keeping the grips and exploring different positions helps to show what steps you need to take to reach your desired position.

Half Guard -> Butterfly Guard Sweep

I have B in lockdown from half guard. To create space I use the lockdown to bring B up towards my head and then use the lockdown to bring B down again. I underhook and grab the lapel around the back. My free hand goes to B's knee and pushes it away to create space. My inside leg then comes and creates a butterfly hook. From here my outside leg comes in and I make a butterfly hook on the other leg. Using the butterfly hooks, I kick out and sit up with my butt angled back so I don't get pushed backwards. While still maintaining the lapel grip, my free arm traps B's same side arm underneath my armpit, securing it with a grip over their elbow. I then take the same side leg as my overhook and bring it out underneath my other butterfly hook. (One hook in while the other leg is outside) I bring my head over to the same side as my overhook and sit towards my overhook while elevating with my butterfly hook.

Bow and Arrow Choke Tip

When finishing the bow and arrow choke my feet should cross over B's shoulder and as I pull the lapel, my feet push down.

Seminar Notes: X Guard

Guard Entry:
I have B in my butterfly guard.
Step 1: My left hand reaches across and gets a cross collar grip
Step 2: My right hand grabs B's same side gi pants
Step 3: I elevate B with my left hook as my right hook shoots straight down
Step 4: As I shoot my right hook down, I pull B's leg up into my upper torso
Step 5: My right leg comes around B's leg and my foot rests at the top of B's leg at the hip

Step 4-5 are all that is needed if B stands up to go for a toreando pass.

Sweep 1:
When B grabs my lapel to keep their base.
I release the cross collar grip and my hand comes across my body and grabs B's ankle *thumb down*. I use the pressure of my hooks to sweep B over to my right. I use the grip on the ankle to bring the leg across my chest and pass the guard.

Sweep 2:
When B stands.
I follow the steps as sweep 1 but one detail is to use the foot resting on the hip to help me raise my hips up and finish the sweep.

X Guard Sweeps:
The X guard entry starts from the end of the guard entry.
I use my right arm to snake around the outside of B's leg and bring it up to my shoulder. It's imperative that the ankle rests on my shoulder and not on my biceps. The leg that was resting at the hip becomes the TOP hook of the x guard.

Sweep 1: I use the X guard to push B away from me. My right leg/TOP hook releases and comes to the ground. I post my left arm on the ground and do a technical stand up.

Sweep 2: When B posts their right arm on the ground.
Grap the right arm with the cross collar grip and extend the x guard hard. Pass.

Sweep 3: B stands and tries to turn away/you can't reach the sleeve in sweep 2.
Grab B's far side pants and use the hook to push against his inner thigh to make him fall. Come on top and pass.

Guard Pass:
Outside Pass: One hand has a deep grip on the same side pants close to the crotch. The other hand has a grip near the knee. I circle around in the direction of the grip at the knee. B will turn into me. As my lead leg reaches B's head. I drop my knee to the floor and switch my hips at the same time. I let go of my grip that was at the knee and bring it across B's hip.

Inside Pass Butterfly Guard:
In the same motion I grab the same side collar and the same side pant leg. While pushing B backwards with the collar grip, I push the leg to the side to pass the guard.

North South/SidecontrolTransitions

Side Control Transition:
B gets an underhook on my right arm and turns into me. I sprawl out on B's arm/shoulder and use my left hand to push down on B's face while my right arm gets a deep overhook. My right hand then goes to the back of B's head. (The back of my hand should be touching the back of his head). From there I just walk around the head and take side control on the other side.

North South Transitions:

I have north south over B's arms. I can either grab their belt, pants, or gable grip my arms as long as B is unable to bring their elbows to the mat. My hips are on the mat and I am not above B's head but on the side. If B tries to shrimp into me, I go to meet their leg by either walking around the head and then stop the leg by going into a reverse kesa gatame position. If B goes back to being flat, I return to the regular position.

Transition #2:
This is basically the same position as above but I don't have B's arms trapped. Instead my arms are flat on the ground. From here I walk over the head while dragging my elbow down towards B's head. As I cross over B's head, my arm comes around the head to crossface. Essentially B ends up being crossfaced but with their arm trapped against their face. After I have side control, I can grab the lapel and feed it to my crossface hand.

Armlock Off Bicep Post

B is in my guard and is posting out on my armpits

Step 1: My right arm goes to the same side arm and I place my hand on B's elbow. (Rest of arm lays flat against the arm)
Step 2: I put my right foot on B's hip and shrimp out

Step 3: B's arm should be trapped on the side of my body. From here my knee comes up to the back of my hand and pushes down

Step 4: My left leg comes up and clamps down on B's chest

Step 5: I have the option to slide my right shin to the back of B's head for the belly down armbar

Passing Half Guard Tips

When passing with my right leg trapped. Head control and deep underhook with my right arm. Pass the lapel with my right hand to my left. My right arm extends at B's elbow to keep their arm extended, preventing their underhook. My right leg/hips sink down and move towards B's feet. My left leg also extends down, trapping B's leg. I can bring my right leg out towards mount. It's okay if my foot is trapped. My right arm creeps up and to the left to isolate B's arm. My right hand can then grab my left elbow, resutling in B's arm being trapped beneath my chest/or their arm being extended up in the air. *Puts them at risk for americana*. Threatening with the sub can force them to open up their leg so that I can pass to mount.

Sweep Off Guard Pass Position

B is in my guard. My left hand has a cross sleeve grip and my right hand is gripping the same side of B's pants at the knee.

Step 1: Open guard, placing feet on hips.

Step 2: Right shin comes across B's stomach

Step 3: Left leg comes up and over B's head, crushing down to break their posture

Step 4: I use my leg against B's head to extend them out

Step 5: As B powers back into me I use the pants grip to "bring my stomach" to the mat

Step 6: I sweep and use my grips against the floor to unhook my leg from their head and go to knee on belly

Step 7: Pull the arm across and get a inside collar grip with the hand that was gripping the pants

Step 8: Let go of the arm, get the other collar grip, slide to mount and get the tap

Other option from the same position.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5qnSSpTIXI&feature=player_embedded#!

Can also kick them over to go straight to the armbar

Variation #1:
As B tries to pass to my left. My left leg comes across B's back and my left foot makes a hook on the inside of B's leg. My right leg comes out and posts on the mat. From here I keep both grips and while extending my left leg, pull B's arm towards me.

Variation #1.5
If B Pulls their arm out my left hand grabs the belt and I pull B so that their head hits the mat. From there I take the back.

Variation #2
As B passes to my left my left foot comes down across B's neck. I shrimp my hips out and my right foot comes over to get the armbar. If B goes to defend I use my opposite arm to come underneath for a arm drag grip with my thumb down. I can then drag the arm across, bringing my other foot against B's neck and armbar the other arm.

Stand Up in Guard -> Sweep

B stands up in my guard.

Step 1: Bring my legs around B's knees and lock them together

Step 2: Same side sleeve grip on both sides

Step 3: Bring B into me and roll over whichever shoulder

Sprawl -> Side Control

When someone comes up to their knees from side control or shoots in you sprawl on them and do this move.
Depending on what side you go, you use your arms on different sides. If you want to spin to your right your left arm comes across and cross faces the left side of B's face. Once I spin to the side my right arm comes over the back and grabs the far side collar. My left arm comes underneath B's left arm and grabs their right gi sleeve. While pulling with the grips I jump to the opposite side, bringing B into side control with their back to me.

Guard -> Shoulder Attack

Step 1: I get a cross collar grip. B "answers the phone" and uses their free arm to post against my free arm.
Step 2: I put my foot on the same side as the posted arm and shrimp out to the side. Using my knee to bring their posted arm across their body.
Step 3: B's elbow should land/get trapped in the space next to my hips/ribs.
Step 4: I use my free arm to grab B's wrist. I lift my hips against their elbow as I pull the arm backwards applying the shoulder lock.

Mount -> Shoulder lock -> americana

Step 1: Grapevine the legs and add pressure with the pelvis.  Your belt should be overlapping B's belt.
Step 2: Get a cross collar grip.
Step 3: When B goes to push away your grip, use your free hand to push their arm across their chest
Step 4: Put all your chest pressure on their elbow, trapping their arm to their chest.
Step 5: Keeping the cross collar grip, use your forearm against their chest
Step 6: Bring your free hand to come around B's wrist area and bring their forearm towards their head to apply the shoulder lock
Step 7: If they straighten their arm out, release the collar grip, catch the arm and go for the americana

Side Control -> Mount -> Armbar/Choke

Start with reverse kesa getame position with belt grip.
Step 1: Clear their elbow by scooting my body backwards
Step 2: My left hand goes to B's thigh while my left knee follows across B's body
Step 3: I release the belt grip and slide my hand down B's arm to grip behind the elbow
Step 4: As I mount, I bring B's arm across their chest and apply pressure on the arm with my body
Step 5: My right hand goes on the mat and slides around in an arc as my leg follows to go to S mount
Step 6: My right hand grips the cross collar as my left arm goes for the arm.
Step 7: I finish the armbar/ if B pulls out their arm, my left hand gets the collar grip and i switch back to the x choke from mount

Knee on Belly -> Back -> Double Attack Choke/Armbar

I have my right knee on B's belly. B turns into me and pushes my knee. I sprawl out and collapse my chest on top of B's shoulder. My left arm shoots towards B's hip while my right hand holds B's knee pushing arm and I rotate my body over B's head, switching my base. I should end up with B on their side with their back facing towards me. Mainintaining pressure on B's shoulder so they can't turn into me, I use my right hand to come around the outside of B's head and grab their wrist. My left hand then comes underneath B's arm and grabs my own wrist to form a kimura grip. I then tuck my right shin into B's back while I post out my left leg. I pull B over my shin and use my left leg to get the hook. From here, my right hand goes to B's collar while my left hand comes around B's bicep and grabs my own collar. I can then attack with the bow and arrow or push B's head away and go for the armbar from the back.

Knee on Belly Switch -> S Mount Armbar

I have my right knee on B's belly. If B shrimps out and pushes my knee away, my left leg swings around to the other side of B's hip. My right leg then comes all the way around B's head and posts out. If B tries to turn into me again, I slide my knee across their belly and come into a high s mount. From there I attack the arm and finish with the armbar.

Kesa gatame -> armbar

I have kesa-gatame on B's right side. I have B's right arm tucked into my left armpit and my right arm underhooks B's other arm, securing it by gripping my own collar.

Step 1: I bring my left leg over B's head and bring their right arm diagonally across the body.

Step 2: I sink down and use my armpit + hips to initiate the armlock

Step 3: If B escapes their arm, I spin and armbar the arm I have trapped with my own collar

Armbar from kesa.
-From the same position above I make sure that B's underhooked arm is trapped on top of my shoulder and secured by the collar grip and my head. If B tries to bring the arm across my face to push me away, I catch it with my left hand and lock up an americana. Otherwise..
Step 1: I bring the underhooked arm down towards B's waist.

Step 2: My forearm/elbow comes across B's stomach and I put all my pressure through my forearm.

Step 3: I release my collar grip and my hand slides to behind B's elbow

Step 4: While mainting the pressure with my head and forearm, my left hand comes up behind the elbow on top of my right hand

Step 5: I can go knee on belly and then post out my left leg to finish the armlock

Loop Choke/Sweep off half guard pass + Loop choke from sprawl

I start with a knee shield half guard. I use my left hand to get a cross collar grip on B. My right hand blocks B's crossfacing arm with a sleeve grip. While B passes my guard, I use the collar grip to come around the head as if going for a guillotine. Keeping the sleeve grip, I hip escape once and then roll underneath B, pushing the sleeve across their body. Once I roll B onto their back, I let go of the sleeve and grab the pants. I then bridge back onto B to finish the choke. If I can't finish the choke I come up while maintaining the collar grip.

After the initial guard pass, I can come up onto my knees instead. With my left hand with the cross collar, I put all my pressure on the back of B's head with my chest. I then circle around to the right putting my right hand behind B's thigh and my head underneath their stomach, in front of their thigh. From there I keep circling to try and finish the choke. If they don't tap I keep circling until they are off balance. From there I switch my hips so that my belly is up and then spin bringing my free hand around their arm to the back of their head. My belly should be beneath B's head with one hand in the collar and the other behind their head.

Instead of circling and switching my hips in the last move, I can use the leg grip and the collar grip and bulldoze into the side of B. Once they start to crumble I flip over their body and spin into the choke.

Butterfly Guard Situp -> Choke -> Sweep

B is in my butterfly guard with me flattened out on my back. I extend my legs and sit up. My left arm comes around B's right arm and I for a one arm tie up grabbing his collar. My right arm posts on the ground and I do a technical stand up so my right leg comes up. I keep my left leg with a butterfly hook and bring my right hand into the collar palm up. I then bring my right leg into B's leg so that the top of my foot is on the outside of his leg with my left leg hook on the inside. If B tries to block the choke and posts out their left leg, I use my hook to elevate and sweep them to my right side.

Standing Guard Pass/ Butterfly Guard Variation

Step 1: Have double knee control
Step 2: I side step to the left and push B's right leg to the ground as I bring my right shin across their leg
Step 3: I use my shin/leg to bring B's leg up closer to their chest
Step 4: I get an underhook and bring my left leg close to B
Step 5: Pass to mount

Butterfly Guard Vartion
Step 1: Get over the back grip
Step 2: Free hand gets same side knee grip
Step 3: Push knee to ground and slide knee across
Step 4: Continue steps from above and pass to mount

Armbar to the back + Knee on belly to back

I have an armbar on B's right side. My right arm is hooking the arm while my left arm is free. B is doing the classic armbar defense. I use my left arm to clamp down on B's arms to secure my position. I then bring the leg over B's head behind their head. My left arm then comes around the back of B's head and grabs their lat. In one motion I use my right leg to hook and my left leg's motion to take the back. **note: My right arm keeps the arm trapped with the gi. Once I take the back I can go to the classic over under gi choke or go back to the armbar.

Knee on belly to the back:
I have knee on belly on B's right side and they shrimp away. I place my chest on their shoulder and spin to the other side so that B's back is facing me. My right arm comes around the back of B's head and grabs the cross wrist and my left arm comes under neath their trapped arm and grabs my own wrist. *Kimura grip* My left leg then comes up while my right leg tucks into B's back. I then pull B onto me and take the back.

Side Control escape to choke

I start in side control but T has an underhook and head control. My first move is to frame against T and shrimp out to bring my inside knee in. From there I use my outside leg to hook T's leg between my knee and my hook. my arm that would block the cross face then loosens T's gi and brings it around their back to my free arm (not underhooked). I then shrimp out again and pass the lapel to my cross face arm except I know have a lapel choke grip. From there I bring their crossface arm across my body while reconstituting guard and pull them down onto my chest. I then use my free arm to come around the back of their head to apply pressure and finish the choke. One of the setups is to just go for the cross choke and when they go to defend just bring the arm across. I can also go back to the cross choke if they are tough and try to posture up.

Another option is to just underhook the arm after getting the lapel in the cross choke. because their posture is down and it's an easy route to the back.

Akula Choke/Defense + Mount Trap

The Akula choke starts with me in side control with my arm controlling their arm and gripping the belt. It's important that when I control their arm they aren't able to drop their elbow to the ground. The next objective is to clear the near side arm. I can do this by switching my base or bring my knee in to B's rib and then just sliding it towards the head. Once the arm is cleared I circle to a north south position while smashing B's arm against their head and make them uncomfortable. Their reaction will most likely be to pull their arm out and that is when I use my right arm or arm that was blocking their hip to reach up underneath their armpit and grab their lapel. I then go back to side control and use my shoulder to place all my weight on their sternum. I then use my left hand and grab the opposite lapel and bring my elbow to the floor and drag it up towards the top of B's head. A tip is to not let B ever touch their elbow to the mat as this will help them to escape.

Defense for akula choke:
One defense is to get my elbow to the ground when he has his shoulder on my sternum. I then use my free arm to push the back of B's head towards my head and shrimp out to take the top position

The other defense is to bring my free arm and weave it in front of B's choking arm and using my head+hand to break the choke and bring the arm he was using to choke me across my body. I can escape my trapped arm and use my arms to lock up an arm triangle from the bottom. I then use my leg to hook his leg and while extending his leg, I bridge up and backwards to sweep.

Mount tip: when people are blocking your mount from sidecontrol but their foot isn't on their thigh but past their thigh, you can mount and trap their ankle. it makes it hard for them to move and is very uncomfortable.

Single Leg TDD to the Back

This move is done when B gets to their knees after escaping side control or just going for a takedown. What I want to do is take one arm and put it across their face while my other arms goes around the back of their arm and gable grips my hands together. Once I sprawl and break the grip I use my left hand to reach across B's back and grab the opposite side heel. While spinning to my left side, I switch my base so my hips are pointed towards B's head. I can take my right arm and grab a collar while using the heel to spin towards the back.

Knee On Belly to Kimura Attack

Starting from knee on belly position on bottom's right side
Person on bottom puts their hand on my knee to push away.

Step 1: I use my right arm (arm closes to their hip) and hold their wrist down to their hip
Step 2: I bring my posted left leg around B's head while dropping to my knees and securing a kimura grip on the trapped wrist
The next steps depend on where B's arm is situated.
If the arm is stuck in between my legs, I let go of the kimura grip and secure the arm with the gi or the belt. Then I use my free arm to pull B's trapped arm to eliminate the space and go back to finish the kimura. If B's arm isn't trapped between my legs and is just outside, I clamp my legs to their head and finish the kimura.

Baseball Bat to Back

From baseball bat choke/knee on belly, keep the choke grip loose. Fake the choke and in one motion go to the feet and circle to the back. Adjust the grip to pass the arms past B's head and take the back.

Omoplata From Guard When Opp. Raises Leg

Step 1: T raises one leg with both arms posted on B's body

Step 2: B uses their opposite side hand to break the grip on the lapel and get a sleeve grip on the arm on the same side as the raised leg

Step 3: B underhooks the raised leg with the same side arm and passes the sleeve grip to the underhooked arm

Step 4: B opens their guard and finishes the omoplata

OPTION II:

When B goes to finish the omoplata, they can put their free leg over the back of T's head to control T's posture. Sometimes T will grab the ankle of that leg and pull it off their head. B can break that grip and then go to a triangle choke instead.

Tuesday, May 31, 2011

Old School + Open Guard Pass + Open Guard Sweep

Old School Half Guard Sweep:
B starts in half guard position blocking the cross face and far side underhook. Using the underhook B goes to deep half guard and using the arm that was blocking the cross face grabs T's heel. B's left underhook arm then comes around the outside of T's thigh and grabs the heel that is being held with their other hand. B then uses their right arm to base on the mat and comes up to their knees to sweep.

Open Guard Pass:
This pass is used when B opens their guard to sweep when T stands up to pass.
T comes forward over B's head as if diving like superman. This forces B's legs to go over their head and they are stuck inverted with pressure. T then takes either of their arms and comes across the legs and secures a lapel grip like a double under pass. T then clears the legs and lands in side control.

Open Guard Sweep:
This sweep is used when T stands up in guard to pass.
B has same side sleeve grips on both sides. Once T stands, B opens their guard and places their legs on the sides of T's shins. B then clamps their legs together to force T's legs to close. After the legs are closed, B triangles their legs, locking T's legs together. Using their legs and the sleeve grips, B brings T into them and sweeps them to whichever side.

New Guard Position + 3 Sweeps + 2 Attacks

New guard position starts with T in B's guard. B has a cross collar grip with their left hand. When T goes to posture up, B opens their guard and places their right foot on T's hip and their left foot right behind T's right knee on the left side. B's right hand then grips T's left pant leg.

Sweep 1:
Starting from the guard position. B pushes at the hip with their right foot, pulls with the pants grip, and pulls with the hook at the knee. B keeps the collar grip and uses that to come up on top and possibly finish with a cross choke.

Sweep 2:
Starting from the guard position. B switches their hips and brings the foot that was behind T's right knee up to the hip and the foot that was at the hip down to T's right ankle. Then B pushes at the hip and scissor sweeps T's ankle to sweep.

Sweep 3: Starting from the guard position. B brings their hips in closer to T and elevates T as if going for a helicopter sweep. Using the collar grip and the hook behind the knee, B brings T over their shoulder and rolls backward to sweep.

Attack 1+2:
These attacks start from the guard position but T has a grip on each leg at the knee. B releases the collar grip and breaks T's pants grip on B's right leg. B then swings his left leg in to come up against T's shoulder and pushes the shoulder away to break the grip. From here B can either go to triangle or omoplata and finish.

Side Control Escape + Half Guard Attack -> Sweep

Side Control Escape:
T has side mount position on my right side. I place my arms in a prayer position to block the cross face. I keep my right arm up to block the crossface and use my left arm to get an underhook on the far arm. I also bring my leg up to block the mount. In one motion I use my arm that is blocking the cross face to create space by pushing against T's knee. I use my underhook to hip escape and turn onto my stomach. From that position I come onto my knees and either single or double leg T to sweep.

Half Guard Attack -> Sweep:
This attack is a counter to the side control escape above. Once B has escaped and has a single leg locked up I use my left arm to come across the head and the other arm underneath in an over under position with a gable grip. *whichever side the head is on, I put my arm over the shoulder*. Once I have my grips I sprawl out to defend the takedown. From here My over the shoulder arm feeds the lapel to my overhooking arm. Once I have fed the lapel I use my free hand to grab the back of the lapel at the neck. From here I use the same side leg with the overhook lapel grip and step up clearing B's arm. From here I pull half guard and end with a modified cross choke with the arm trapped. To finish the choke I use my collar grip and bring my elbow to B's chest and then bring it across the throat to finish. If B defends the choke, I hip escape and use a butterfly hook to sweep to the side of the defending arm. I can follow the sweep into mount and finish the choke from mount. If B decides to post his arm out to defend the sweep I just finish the choke instead.

Armbar -> Side Control, Mounted Americana Defense, Kimura Defense

I have B in an armbar position from side control on B's left arm.
Step 1: I take my leg that is above B's head and bring it across his arm like you would an omoplata

Step 2: I simply posture up and extend my leg to clear the trapped arm

Step 3: Claim side control

**Americana From Mount Defense**

When B has an american locked from mount.

Step 1: Using my free hand, push against B's lat to create space

Step 2: Bring my head into the space created so that my head rests on top of B's arm

Step 3: While leaning my head against the arm, extend my trapped arm to break the americana grip

Step 4: With my freed arm, overhook B's arm and grab the belt

Step 5: Upa and sweep to escape from mount to land in guard

**Kimura Defense**
B has my right arm locked up in a Kimura and is in side control

Step 1: My left arm comes underneath B's belly to the other side like an underhook

Step 2: I begin to reverse shrimp out while keeping my kimura arm safe

Step 3: I escape and come up to my knees

Armbar Escape to Topside Half Guard

T has my right arm tied up for the armbar.. I am defending by grabbing my own lapel.

Step 1: Using the forearm of my left arm, I push T's bottom leg (closest to my hip) towards my legs and put it into my half guard.

Step 2: When I trap the leg I should have a lockdown on the outside of his leg. **If I am trapping T's right leg, my left leg comes over and my right leg secures the triangle lockdown on the outside of the trapped leg**

Step 3: I use my hand/forearm to push the leg over my face behind my head

Step 4: I use my head and arch my back to put pressure on the T's left leg

Step 5: My left arm comes across my body towards T's head while I use my legs to come on top

Step 6: Land in T's half guard and get head control

Knee On Belly Escape

Step 1: Assuming the top guy has knee on belly on my right side, I bring my left arm up to grap the lapel of T and pull down to break his base.

Step 2: When T bases out his arm on my left side I use my left arm to come in between the space of his arm and his knee.

Step 3: Using my underhook and pushing against his belt above his groin I shrimp up and take the back

Open Guard Pass

This pass and it's variations are done when the bottom player has one leg wrapped up De La Riva style and Spider Guard control on the arm.

In this scenario I'll pretend my right leg is the one wrapped up and my left arm is being controlled at the bicep by spider guard.

Pass #1 Basic Pass
Step 1: My left hand grips the gi pants at the knee or wherever it can on the leg

Step 2: My right leg that is trapped by the DLR hook and ankle grip turns to face my left side. I use this angle created to break the angle of the grips and in one motion "kick" my trapped leg out to break the grips.

Step 3: I bring my right leg behind me in a semicircle so that my left leg is now forward.

Step 4: Using my left hand's grip on the pant leg, I bring the leg across my body and pass the guard.

Step 5: I maintain the pants grip and bring my shoulder onto the side/back of the bottom player to keep them from moving.

Pass #2 When the trapped leg cannot be freed
Step 1: I follow step 1 from Pass #1

Step 2: Because I cannot free my leg, I straighten out the trapped leg and lean towards my trapped arm as if I am doing a leg stretch.

Step 3: Using my bent left leg, I use my knee to press against the back of the bottom player's ankle to break the spider guard.

Step 4: My freed arm comes around the outside of B's leg for a thumb in collar grip

Step 5: Smash pass to side control.

Pass #3 When B SGuards's Opposite Arm After Grip Break
Step 1: Follow Step's 1-3 in Pass #2

*Bottom player instead institutes a spider guard grip on my right arm*

Step 2: I bring my right arm across my body and pass on the right side to side control.

2 Counters to Standing Guard Pass

These are counters to http://stile0.blogspot.com/2011/03/standing-guard-pass-with-trapped-lapel.html

Counter 1:
Step 1: As T brings their left leg around to begin the pass, I switch my lapel grip from my right hand to my left.

Step 2: My left hand grabs at the back of T's lapel at the neck

Step 3: Once T is on the ground and in my half guard, I use my half guard hook to sweep T

Step 4: Keeping the neck grip and the lapel grip I come on top and control the position

Counter 2:
*Assume T has brought their left leg around but I didn't have enough time to switch my grips on their lapel*

Step 1: I turn into T and using my right arm, I create space and bring my head against T's body

Step 2: My right arm then comes around the back of T's head and forms an S grip with my left arm that was gripping the lapel between T's legs.

Step 3: To get T over I can use my right leg *while left leg keeps T's leg trapped* to hook T's free leg to bring them over me

Step 4: Land in side control and maintain position

Standing Guard Pass With Trapped Lapel

I am standing in B's guard with my right foot closest to B's groin. B has their left arm around the outside of leg and a lapel grip.

Step 1: I grip B's right knee with my left hand while right hand grabs the back of the gi

Step 2: I lower my shoulder into B's head for head control

Step 3: My left leg swings around my hip while maintaining both grips

Step 4: Landing in half guard, I use my left leg to kick my right leg free and gain side control

Standing Guard Pass *Rowing Pass*

I'm standing square to Bottom guy and he has a sleeve grip on my left sleeve with his right hand.

Step 1: Counter the B's sleeve grip and get a grip on B's sleeve.

Step 2: With my right hand, reach across my body to grab B's right pant leg at the cuff

Step 3: Taking a small step back and maintain posture

Step 4: While pulling on the sleeve grip and the pants grip, step around to land in knee on belly position

From here there is an option to go for a same side armbar

Side Control -> Mount -> Armbar

Step 1: I start in top side control position on B's right side with an opposite side arm triangle locked up. (B's left arm is trapped)

Step 2: Switch base to clear B's right arm

Step 3: I slide my knee up to B's hip and slide it across to get mount

Step 4: Tracing my right arm along the mat, I switch to a modified S mount

Step 5: I tie up B's left arm by grabbing my own lapel with my left hand

Step 6: If B defends the armbar, I use my right hand to post out towards B's head and turn my hips over towards B's head to break the grip

Mount -> X Choke -> Armbar

Step 1: I start in mount position and with my left hand open B's right lapel and get a cross lapel grip with my right hand

Step 2: When B defends the cross lapel grip, I push their elbow up and then push their arm to the side.

Step 3: Collapse my chest onto B's arm so that it becomes trapped

Step 4: Using my left hand to trace a semi circle along the mat from my left side around B's head, I switch to a modified S mount

Step 5: Using a thumb in grip with my left hand I spin back to regular mount, placing my head on the floor to finish the choke

**Armbar**
Step 6: If I can't get the thumb in grip, my cross lapel grip switches to and arm tie up by grabbing my own lapel and finishing with the armbar
