Open Guard Techniques

Open Guard Attacks
Assume that I am attempting and Omoplata on Top's left arm.
1) Initiate modified spider guard with same side sleeve grips with feet on the hip of Top with shins applying pressure to Top's elbows. (Good tension prevents Top from getting their arms free and attempting to smash/pass)
2) Let go of my left sleeve grip to reach across for the cross collar grip to break Top's posture.
3) My right leg which was maintaining tension on Top's left arm straightens out and comes around over the shoulder to omoplata positon
4) My right hand that had a grip on Top's left sleeve is switched to my left hand and I then use my free right arm to block Top's attempt to step over my body to escape the omoplata
5) While maintaining the grip on Top's trapped arm with my left hand and assuming I have blocked Top's step over escape attempt, I use my right hand to grip the leg of Top
5b) Because my hips are parallel to the ground it allows Top to maintain posture. To break down Top's posture I "switch" my hips to an angle (hips should go away from top) and "punch" with the grip on the leg to flatten out Top.
The motion should bring Top's shoulder to the mat, flattening them out and making the omoplata easier to finish.

Open Guard Sweeps
Butterfly Guard -> Half-Guard -> Back take
Move starts out from sitting butterfly guard with both underhooks and a S grip on the back. With the chin tucked and forehead against the clavicle bone I sit back and elevate T into the air. From there I choose a leg to drop. In this case I'll drop my left leg. After I drop my left leg and T starts to fall down, I get on my left hip and scoot into a deep half guard position. My right leg then comes around the outside of the trapped leg and drags it to the outside. My right leg dragging the leg creates space for my left leg to come out and I should end up having T's leg in between mine while still maintaining my S grip around T's waist. My left leg which is now on the outside moves so that my left foot comes up to rest on top of the back of T's knee. At the same time my left hand reaches up for a collar grip and my right hand stays near T's waist. I then sit back onto my left hip and put my hooks in for the back.

Step 1: Get underhooks with both arms while keeping the chin tucked and forehead against B's clavicle
Step 2: Elevate B
Step 3: Lower left leg while simultaneously shrimping to get onto left hip
Step 4: As B falls into half guard, get deep as possible with head on the inside
Step 5: Use my right leg to pull B's leg away from their body
**Creates space so that my left leg can escape from half guard allowing me to get onto my knees
Step 6: Escape my left leg and while maintaining my S grip get to my knees
Step 7: Place my left foot on the back of B's knee
Step 8: Release the S grip and attack the neck with my left hand while leaving my right hand at the hip
Step 9: Roll towards my left hip and put in my right hook
Step 10: Escape my left foot from behind B's knee and place as hook to complete back mount

Knee Shield Guard:

I have my left shin across B's stomach with my knee on the left side and my foot on the right. My right leg comes across the front of B's face and blocks him from passing. During the sweeps my right leg can move from in front of B's face to their left shoulder.

Sweep 1:
B has a lapel grip with their left arm as if they are trying to do a one arm smash pass. Their right hand is on my left knee to pass. I kimura grip B's right arm and apply pressure. If B tries to roll out of the submission I follow B up and finish the attack.

Sweep 2:
B tries to pass to my right side using the lapel grip to smash me down. I grip the sleeve that has the lapel grip and with my left hand grip his pants at the knee. My right leg adds pressure at the shoulder to off balance B with the help of my sleeve grip. I then use my left knee at the belly to bring B over and sweep them to land in knee on belly.

Sitting Guard Sweeps:

Sweep 1:
B stands up in A's guard
Step 1: A has cross sleeve grip on B's right sleeve with their right hand and a grip on B's right pant leg with their left hand
Step 2: A sit's up in their guard with their head on the outside of B's arm. A switches the sleeve grip to their left hand
Step 3: A posts their right hand on the ground and uses their right leg to hook B's heel
Step 4: A stands up while controlling the leg and sweeps however they want

Sweep 2:
Continues from Step 2 in Sweep #1.
Step 3: A's right hand grabs B's left knee
Step 4: While maintaining the sleeve and knee grip, A uses the knee grip to roll through the opening in between B's legs and sweeps
Step 5: A lands in B's half guard and passes to side control

Sweep 3:
This sweep starts after Step 2 in Sweep #1 when the sleeve grip is transferred to the left hand of A. B postures up and breaks the grip.
Step 3: A grabs B's left sleeve instead and passes it to their left hand
Step 4: A's right hand comes up to grab an over the back gi grip
Step 5: A places their foot on B's left knee and while pushing with the knee, pulls down with the over the back grip to sweep B and land in side control
